It can be very hard for an individual to ignore the signs that there are some major problems in the world around us. The amount of inhumane injustices that occur on a regular basis can be quite overwhelming, and even difficult to truly comprehend. However, no matter how much one may hear about the problems that are occurring in the world around us, it can be incredibly hard to imagine what you can do about it. After all, if you are just one person it is hard to imagine how you can effectively change the ideas and minds of those who are participating in dishonest actions. This is where The Way to Happiness seeks to help.
Introducing The Way to Happiness to Schools
Despite their young age, children are often the most eager to do whatever is necessary to change the world. Perhaps it is partly due to the fact that they haven’t been beaten down by failure as much as many adults have, or perhaps it is because they can see certain things more clearly, but the fact is that children who are empowered with truth and valuable tools are often eager to use them, and in so doing they can change the world they are growing up in.
The Way to Happiness provides individuals with twenty-one easy-to-understand and apply precepts that result in happy lives for the individual and others around him. However, the power of this commonsense guide lies in how it is spread to and applied by many individuals all around the world. It is for this reason that The Way to Happiness Foundation is hosting monthly lectures at Latvia schools.
Since September 2014, The Way to Happiness Foundation has delivered roughly forty-five lectures at thirty-eight different schools, sharing the messages of hope and happiness to over two thousand students and more than five hundred teachers and parents. Two schools were so impressed with the information shared through these lectures, and the value this booklet imparted to their students, that they requested that The Way to Happiness Foundation return each month to hold ongoing lectures, which they are gladly doing.
One lecture participant indicated that she had previously blamed herself for her failure to immediately achieve the goals she set for herself. Through listening to the lecture she came to realize that there are other ways to work for and achieve her goals, and that while it may take some time, there is nothing wrong with this. Another lecture participant learned that he should treat others in a way that he would want them to treat him. He recognized that by treating others poorly, he not only created a bad effect on those individuals and on himself, but he influenced them to act poorly toward others in turn. He realized that he has a responsibility to act nicely toward others, and that in doing so he can improve the attitudes of others around him. Yet another lecture participant realized how important it is to truly dedicate herself to her studies in order to achieve competence. She understands now that her ability to get results in life depends largely upon having a purpose for her actions, and with this purpose she can learn new knowledge and gain new skills. She knows now that while life isn’t always easy, there are ways to overcome the various obstacles an individual will encounter along the way. A teacher who participated in the lecture found that with The Way to Happiness she could better observe what her students were struggling with and help them to do better in school and in their lives. She realized that the worst communication to have is no communication at all, and so will strive to always have some communication with all her students.
By changing the understanding of just a few individuals in a few schools in one country, The Way to Happiness has the power to change the world. It certainly changed the lives of many students, parents and teachers in Latvia.
